Further on the Byzantine Church that was revealed last spring, they continue the work and they know now that they will have to continue the work under the road and further in the land to be able to have the total area in view.

Tο Ενυδρείο της Κρήτης, βρίσκεται στις εγκαταστάσεις της παλιάς βάσης των Αμερικάνων στις Γούρνες, 15 χιλ. ανατολικά του Ηρακλείου.
Πρόσφατα τοπικό τηλεοπτικό κανάλι πρόβαλε μια εκπομπή για το Ενυδρείο της Κρήτης.Το πρώτο video είναι μια γρήγορη οπτική ξενάγηση στους χώρους του, ενώ στο δεύτερο, στελέχη του Eνυδρείου μιλάνε για αυτό.
Τέλος αυτή είναι η ιστοσελίδα του Κέντρου Θαλάσσιας Έρευνας (EΛKEΘE), το οποίο ιδρύθηκε για να συντονίσει την κρατική χρηματοδοτούμενη θαλάσσια έρευνα στην Eλλάδα.

Μια σκηνογραφία της Μεσογείου, των ελληνικών βυθών και του τροπικού περιβάλλοντος μήκους 600 μέτρων περιμένει τον επισκέπτη κατά μήκος της οποίας θα έρθει πρόσωπο με πρόσωπο με 2.500 περίπου οργανισμούς που κατανέμονται σε 200 είδη.
Οι οργανισμοί φιλοξενούνται σε 32 δεξαμενές συνολικής χωρητικότητας 1.600.000 λίτρων. Οι δεξαμενές εναλλάσσονται ανάλογα με τα φιλοξενούμενα είδη, τους βιοτόπους τους ή τις συνήθειές τους. Βιότοποι με πολυάριθμα είδη φιλοξενούνται σε μεγάλες δεξαμενές όπως επίσης μεγαλόσωμα είδη που έχουν ανάγκη από χώρο. Στις μικρότερες δεξαμενές αντικρίζει κανείς συγκεκριμένα είδη και μικρο-οικοσυστήματα τα οποία ενώ είναι εντυπωσιακά και σημαντικά θα παρέμεναν απαρατήρητα στις μεγαλύτερες.

Ο χώρος είναι εξοπλισμένος με σύγχρονα οπτικοακουστικά συστήματα, χωρητικότητας 150 ατόμων. Καθημερινά και κατά τη διάρκεια των ωρών λειτουργίας του ενυδρείου προβάλλονται ντοκιμαντέρ σχετικά με το θαλάσσιο οικοσύστημα.

The CretAquarium premises are located within the grounds of the former American Base at Gournes, at a distance of only 15 kilometres from Heraklion city centre. Using the frequent intercity bus services, visitors can reach the aquarium in approximately 20 minutes.
The video is part of a broadcast from a local TV channel and can give you a quick view of the Aquarium’s premises.
Along the 600 m seascape of the Mediterranean, the Greek seas and tropical waters awaiting them, visitors come face to face with approximately 2.500 organisms belonging to 200 species. These are kept in 32 tanks, with a total capacity of 1.600.000 litres. The tanks alternate depending on the species, their habitats or habits. Habitats which host numerous species and large species that have need of room are kept in large tanks, while in the smaller ones, visitors will come across particular species and micro-ecosystems which, though impressive and significant, would be lost to sight in the larger tanks.
At particular points along the route, visitors can rest and enjoy the spectacle of marine species moving behind the glass of the tanks, some of which cover up to 10 square metres. Visitors can learn about species behaviour and habitats interactively, using info-points with touch screens, and can tour the interior of the aquariums using the remote-control underwater cameras found in the larger tanks. A series of wall posters presents interesting and imaginative subjects relating to marine life and ecosystems.

The CretAquarium is belongs to the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR). The Centre was set up as a single institution in order to integrate government-funded marine science research in Greece. Formally established by government decree on June 3 2003, it combines the former research institutes the National Centre for Marine Research(NCMR) and the Institute of Marine Biology of Crete (IMBC), together with their respective field stations.
