Αυτός ο Απρίλης είχε και ένα ρεκόρ στις θερμοκρασίες! Φτάσαμε τους 37οC στη Βόρεια Κρήτη. Γεύση καλοκαιριού στα μέσα του Απρίλη. Όμως μαζί με τις υψηλές θερμοκρασίες ήρθαν και οι φωτιές! Οι άνεμοι ήταν πολύ δυνατοί και η απροσεξία έκανε το θαύμα της!

Φωτιές στην Ανατολική Κρήτη, στη Σητεία και φωτιές και στη Δυτική στα Χανιά, η πρώτη από τον ΧΥΤΑ και οι άλλες στα Χανιά από καύση ελαιοκλαδων….

Ο Δήμος Ιτάνου βρίσκεται στην ανατολική Κρήτη και σε αυτή τη σελίδα θα δείτε φωτογραφίες από το Παλαίκαστρο.

Ο Δήμος Μουσούρων βρίσκεται στο κέντρο του Νομού Χανίων και σε αυτή τη σελίδα από το site του Δήμος θα βρείτε φωτογραφίες της περιοχής.

Στην Δυτική πλευρά είχαμε και συλλήψεις, αλλά όχι στην Ανατολική – μάλλον όταν είσαι ΧΥΤΑ δεν διώκεσαι!

Την Παρασκευή τελικά θα απολογηθούν οι κατηγορούμενοι…

Μακάρι να μην έχουμε άλλες φωτιές φέτο, αρκετά κάηκαν πέρσυ στη Πελοπόνησσο!

Temperature reached 37oC/98.6F twice this April. Not usual for us! This time we had very strong winds and, as some did not pay an attention when they put fire to burn the branches they had cut from the olives, fire became too strong to handle and spread! This happened at the West part of Crete, at the center of the Perfecture of Chania.

Fire started at the East part of the island but at the organised place for disposing the waste. Authorities did not pay attention when they say smoke coming from the waste. The strong winds made again the fire strong.

The Municipality of Itanos is located at the East part of the island and here you can find some info on Palaicastro at Wiki and this page has some pictures of the district.

This is the video showing about the fires in both places.

Next Friday, 2 persons are sent to court for the fire at Chania, but nobody was blamed for the other one! Wonder why?

Let’s wish and pray that this is the last fire in Greece! We had too much loss last summer with the fires at Peloponissos!

In Greece we do a memorial service each year for the dead people. This takes place the first Sunday after the day of the death. You can read more about this service at this page of Wiki.

Last Sunday that memorial service for two former Prime Ministers of Greece took place at their graveyard near the city of Chania. It was for Eleftherios Venizelos (Mournies Chania, 23 August 1864 – Paris, 18 March 1936)and for Sophoklis Venizelos (3 November 1894 – 7 February 1964).

Eleftherios Venizelos was one of the greatest statesmen of modern Greece. He played a significant role in the autonomy of the Cretan State and later in the union of Crete with Greece. Also under his leadership, Greece doubled in area and population during the Balkan wars (1912–13) with the liberation of Macedonia, Epirus and brought Greece on the side of the Allies in the World War I. Though with his policies he came in direct conflict with the monarchy, causing the National Schism that lasted for decades, he also set the basis for the modernization of the Greek society. Venizelos defined an entire era in Greek history, and is still a point of reference in Greek politics today. You can read further at Wiki’s page.

Sophoklis Venizelos was a prominent Greek politician who three times served as Prime Minister of Greece. He was the second son of Eleftherios Venizelos and here is his Wiki page for you to read more about him, if you wish to.
