Σήμερα Σάββατο 21 Φλεβάρη το Καρναβάλι στο Μοχό.
Mochos or Mohos is a village near Malia and Hersonissos. Here is the exact location on the map.
Today, the second Saturday of Carnival, it is a custom to have a big open air party in the center of the village. They cook xinochondro (or trahana) [ dried food made with cracked wheat and fermented milk usually consumed as soup ] and looks like this before being cooked.
The preparations start on Thursday with the fake marriage where all the traditions are kept.
After the ceremony, the couple and a group of people start visiting the houses of the village and ask for xinochondro. Making fun, dancing and drinking.
Today, they cook xinochondro and they offer it for free to the people who participate the festivity. All attendants have to make some black signs on their face. In the past this was done by using the ashes of the fire that cooked xinochondro. Here is a video as prepared by the local TV channel showing the preparations for tonight.
