In Crete there are some dances that you can play while you dance. The video here below has three different dances of this kind.
The first one, the people dance going to the right until the man who plays the lyra stops a bit. At that time the people have to change direction and dance to the left. People change direction each time they hear the lyra stop.
The second one, the ladies hold hands as a star shape and the men dance with them. The men have to be more than women and the extra ones wait until someone from the musicians says «ladies» then the men move to dance with the lady in frond if he manages and some man who was not dancing grabs the hand of the lady in frond of him.
The third one is a bit similar to the second one. But there is only one man who does not have a lady to dance with but dances with a broom. When the man who plays the lyra stops, then the men have to have a different lady to continue the dance. During that change the man who dances with the broom, leaves it down and goes to dance with a lady. The man who is left without a lady, takes the broom and dances until the next change.
Hope the above help you understand what you see.
