Το διεθνές βραβείο Τuning για το 2007 πήρε ο Κος Ιωσήφ Σηφάκης μαζί με τους Αμερικανούς ερευνητές Ed Clark (Camegie Mellon University) και Allen Emerson (University of Texas at Austin).
To βραβείο Turing Award είναι το πιο αξιόλογο βραβείο του ACM και συνοδεύεται από το οικονομικό ποσό των 250.000 δολαρίων. Απονέμεται στο χώρο της πληροφορικής σε άτομα που συμβάλουν σε τεχνικά θέματα. Το οικονομικό βραβείο προσφέρεται από τις εταιρείες Corporation και Google. Θεωρείται το Νομπελ στο χώρο της Πληροφορικής.
Ο Κος Ιωσήφ Σηφάκης γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στην πόλη του Ηρακλείου το 1946, φοίτησε στο Καπετανάκειο (1ο) Λύκειο και μετά πέρασε στο Εθνικό Μετσόβιο Πολυτεχνείο στη Σχολή Μηχανολόγων. Ασχολήθηκε στο Πολυτεχνείο με τα εφαρμοσμένα μαθηματικά και αργότερα μετέβη στη Γαλλία, όπου με γαλλική υποτροφία σπούδασε Πληροφορική. Σήμερα είναι διευθυντής έρευνας στο CNRS και ιδρυτής του εργαστηρίου Verimag στην Γκρενόμπλ της Γαλλίας.

International Award Τuning 2007 was shared by Mr. Joseph Sifakis (CNRS-Verimag Laboratory) and Ed Clark (Camegie Mellon University) and Allen Emerson (University of Texas at Austin).
Turing Award is ACM‘s most prestigious technical award and is accompanied by a prize of $250,000. It is given to an individual selected for contributions of a technical nature made to the computing community. The contributions should be of lasting and major technical importance to the computer field. Financial support of the Turing Award is provided by the Intel Corporation and Google Inc. It is considered as the Nobel price in Information Technology.
Mr Sifakis was born in Heraklion in 1946 graduated 1st High School and studied Mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Athens where he focused at Applied Mathematics. He took a scholarship and studied Computer Science at the University of Grenoble. Nowadays he is is CNRS researcher and the Founder of Verimag laboratory at Grenoble.
